wilson lyles'

clay garden

About Me

My name is Wilson Lyles. I am a potter and I happen to be blind.

I started working with clay in 1993. What I say about clay is, if you don't want to get hooked, then don't touch it! My first experience with pottery was at Pottery Seven Studio in San Francisco. It was located in the Sunset at 9th Ave and Moraga.

I lost my eyesight in 2001. My friends say I throw better on the wheel now than I did when I was seeing. Ha! I don't know what they mean by that.

I love turtles, starfish, octopus, all sea life. Many of my pieces are based on the sea and remind me of my scuba diving days.

the studio

My studio is located in my home in Merced Heights where I have lived since 1964.

There are all kinds of clay and I use mainly porcelain, B-mix smooth. I describe porcelain clay as like throwing cream cheese.
